At House of Lashes, we've always believed that beauty should be inclusive and that confidence comes in all forms. This September, we're proud to support Alopecia Awareness Month by donating 3% of our sales to The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF). This nonprofit organization is dedicated to funding research, supporting those affected by Alopecia, and advocating for a cure for this autoimmune skin disease that can result in hair loss and emotional pain.
Understanding Alopecia
Alopecia is a common autoimmune skin disease affecting as many as 6.8 million people in the United States and 147 million worldwide. It can cause hair loss on the scalp, face, and sometimes other areas of the body. While Alopecia can affect people of all ages, genders, and races, it often starts in childhood.
The disease occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy hair follicles, causing them to shrink and slow down in growth production. In some cases, hair growth may stop altogether.
The Different Types of Alopecia
There are three main types of Alopecia, each with varying levels of severity:
1. Alopecia Areata Patchy: This is the most common form, characterized by one or more coin-sized hairless patches on the scalp or other body areas.
2. Alopecia Totalis: In this form, there is a complete loss of hair on the scalp.
3. Alopecia Universalis: This is the most severe form, resulting in the complete loss of hair on the scalp, face, and body.
Unfortunately, there is currently no known cure for Alopecia. However, the good news is that hair follicles remain alive, offering hope for potential regrowth in the future. The exact cause of the immune system's attack on hair follicles is unknown, making the disease even more puzzling for those who have it.
Why We Care
At House of Lashes, we've always aimed to give our customers the confidence to take on the world. With false lashes we are able to provide products to people with Alopecia, helping them feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.
For our Alopecia beauties, we recommend our natural lash options from the Classic Collection. Designed with comfort and authenticity in mind, these lashes feature undetectable clear bands and are made with 100% sterilized human hair for a soft, realistic feel. Our Classic lashes are the closest thing to natural lashes, allowing you to embrace your true self without fear of judgment.
Some of our most natural styles, such as "Au Naturale" and "Wispy Mini," are perfect for everyday wear. These lashes not only enhance your natural beauty but can provide a confidence boost.
