Ahhh National Relaxation Day… we can already feel the stress lifting from our shoulders.
Self care and relaxation are so important for your mental health. And as much as we’d like to make it a daily priority, sometimes our to-do lists get in the way.
We know, we know, it’s not an excuse, but we are working on getting better!
Sometimes it takes a national holiday to remind us to kick our feet up and relax a bit.
So sit back, relax, and read about how we like to chill out. Hopefully you’ll discover some new ideas for yourself!
Reflect
Relaxation doesn’t have to mean drawing a bath or booking an appointment at the spa all the time. Sure for some this sounds like a dreamy day, but for others this might not resonate as much.
Reflection is such a healthy way to pause and simply think. Think about your life, your goals, your career, your family, friends and loved ones. Reflect on where you are in your life and how far you’ve come.
It’s important to acknowledge where you are right this moment and not get swept up in the details of creating an action plan. We are all for setting goals, but right now we encourage you to just….be.
Write a Love Letter
No, we don’t mean text, email, or forwarding a meme to someone on IG (although these can be thoughtful, too). We mean actually getting out a piece of paper and letting the words flow from your pen. Such a beautiful gesture that can seem old fashioned in our tech filled world.
Think of someone who makes you happy, someone that needs some extra words of encouragement, OR write it to yourself. If you write it to yourself, hide the note somewhere in your space so you can find it and re-read it when you least expect it :)
Eucalyptus Shower
Try hanging a bundle of real eucalyptus on your shower head. The steam from your shower will create the most calming, spa-like scent. It’s a simple way to elevate your mood and experience instantly!
Take deep breaths in and exhale your worries away.
Social Detox
Log out of social media for the day for a little detox. Mindless scrolling can be so damaging to our mental health whether we are aware of it or not.
Remember that social media is everyone’s highlight reel. 9 out of 10 times people are only going to post their wins, not their struggles. Engagements, promotions, weddings, babies, new cars, lavish lifestyles are all put on display and it can become overwhelming to constantly see such glamorous, curated settings.
This is when comparison and even jealousy can begin to creep in... If you start to feel these emotions, it would be a good time to put the phone down.
Remember, your journey cannot be compared to anyone else.
Cozy Up
Sometimes all you need is a great movie or show to take you away. Get fuzzy socks, a blanket and popcorn (A MUST) + enjoy an old favorite or something you've been wanting to see.
Regardless of how you choose to relax today, we encourage you to just make time - for you.
...So take some time for yourself today and get the most out of National Relaxation Day!
